Track Details

Chequered Flag Karting is a much more physical circuit than others we use. The track is very wide but ageing tarmac has resulted in some bumpy braking areas! The circuit also features a bridge and tunnel section, both of which are very important to get right. The bridge requires a good exit through the preceding turns as drivers need to keep the revs high for the climb. The bridge is also very bumpy, so drivers may want to lean forward to avoid back injury. The tunnel has a high-speed entry and a concrete wall awaits those who get it wrong... Despite this the circuit remains a real pleasure to drive - requiring an aggressive driving style to really push the envelope. This is best seen in two uber-high-speed corners - one is a never-ending left-hander at the bottom of the bridge, and the other is the final right-hander. Both require excellent technique and high levels of commitment to get right.

Issues and Rules

1. START LIGHTS: - instead of using flags to signal the race start, CFK uses lights. The race begins when the light changes from Red to Green.

2. TIMING GANTRY: - drivers wishing to keep track of their times can do so by looking up as they cross the start/finsh line. Here there is a new timing gantry displaying each team's/driver's current and best laptimes. You don't get long to read it but try not to concentrate too hard on this as you may lose you focus!

Other Information

The karts at CFK are different to the ones we usually use. The Sodi 270cc kart has a lot of power, especially in the low-range, but the chassis is much heavier. As a result they are faster in a straight line, but much more of a handfull in the corners - requiring drivers to adjust their style.
