Mail Update 2/2 - HUGS: Start of New Term! New Race Calendar Announced! Socials Abound!

Dear All,
On behalf of the society, can I take the opportunity to welcome you back from Winter break; I hope you all had a good time while we were away and are looking forward to getting back to University life as usual.  As much as Winter is a cold, dark season, we're going to try our hand at giving it little bits of light with races and events over the next seven weeks til Easter.  How so?  Well, here's a list to kick you off...
1) Social - Monday February 1st - Piper Club, Newland Ave - 7pm til doors shut - Social Secretary Tom Smith is in the process of organising a night for newcomers and familiar faces alike.  This is a great chance to catch up with old friends, start the year with some new ones and ultimately play a whole lot of ring of fire.  Quick tip, entry before 8pm is free so try and meet us there before doors close.  If you haven't browsed the Facebook event group yet and checked your name next to 'attending' or 'not so much thanks', please do at the following link: click here
2) Race and Social - Wednesday February 3rd - Raceway Karting, Pontefract - 3pm til 8pm - £25 - On with the races.  We get started with a trip to the karting track at Pontefract, where Sam Firth, Marcus Stuttard and Tom Smith have all taken victories this year. We'll meet in the Concourse Lounge at 3pm ready to leave as soon as everyone has amassed.  When we get there, two half-an-hour races will be run in free-for-all format with a maximum of 9 karts taking the track in each race.  This means we are limited to a maximum capacity of 18 drivers total for this event.  With 5 places already taken by the exec, this means that only the first 13 to confirm they're attending this race will get a spot.  After the race, we'll be headed to Asylum for a classic 'Tower' social and general good night out, which we encourage as many people to come as they like.  To confirm yourself for this race, please tick the 'attending' box at the following Facebook event page, located by clicking this link: click here

Your attendance will be confirmed by a reply email.  If you can volunteer your services as a driver for members to get to and from the circuit, please get in touch with one of the exec members, either in person, by phone, Facebook or email.  We're always in need, so anything you can do is appreciated.
3) Race and Social - Wednesday February 10th - East Hull Wheels, Hull - 4pm til 8pm - £27 - Our next race takes place just 4 miles away from University land, in East Hull.  We travelled there once in the past semester, where Will Russell, Rob Stephenson and James Hancox took victory in a team endurance format.  We're once again using a team endurance format, with teams of 3 and 75 minutes of race time between everyone in a team.  Information on how to register for this race will come soon.

4) Social - Wednesday February 17th - Multiple Pubs, Hull - Time TBC til 3am - We're throwing a large social this week, allowing all a small break.  Although specifics are still in the pipeline, I can tell you Pub Golf will be involved.

and finally...

5) Race - Wednesday February 24th - Inter-University Championship Race 2 - PPiK, Leeds - 3pm til 9pm - For the society, this is the important one.  We recently placed 2nd out of 3 teams in the first round of this year's competition with York and Durham's Karting organisations and we want to go one better in the next race taking the win at Leeds and eventually winning the championship at round 3.  We're well placed to take a Leeds victory (our laptimes compare pretty well against theirs) however we're still going to need all the help to take the full win home.  This race is invite only, we'll get in touch with you if we need you for one of our teams.

That's everything I have at the moment, I'll send out more emails throughout the semester with everything going on with the society as I know about it.

Peas. out,
Sam Jackson
President of HUGS
