HUGS Update Week 3.5 (17 Oct 2008) 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 1
This is going to be a long one. Sorry.

1 - Thank you to everyone who came down to the race yesterday evening, I hope you all had a brilliant time (I know I did...25.92 fastest lap of the year! ) and will be joining us for more Karting soon. Special thanks to everyone who came down to Sanctuary for Karaoke and who joined in with the incredibly rousing rendition of 'Holding Out for a Hero,' which was sung as only 6 drunk blokes with 2 very masculine back-up dancers (you know who you are...) can! Btw all race results etc will be updated within the next couple of days...maybe even today if I get a moment or two!

Apologies to anyone last night at Karaoke who was offended by the words, actions, gestures or indeed presence of our previous Social Secretary, Mr Steve Williamson, but let's be honest...he did make the night incredibly entertaining!!!

2 - BAD NEWS. The race on Wednesday 22nd has had to be cancelled due to staffing problems at BUMPS...they informed us yesterday and we have tried to find a way around the times/dates there but it is completely unfeasible and so that race is cancelled. Anyone who had their name down for that race will be automatically put on the list for the next BUMPS Endurance race, which we expect to have sometime in November.

3 - GOOD NEWS! We have managed to book the track at Pontefract this morning as a last minute thing, they can fit us in for a 60 minute Team Endurance session on Wednesday 22nd October...but due to the last minute nature of things and the distance to this circuit the cost will now be £20 per person, but this will include all travel, equipment etc, so it's not too bad. For that one we need to be there by 3:30pm, so we shall be meeting at 2:00pm in the Continental Cafe as usual. Oh and for this race the track have said they will award us medals for the top 3 teams...so something to play for!

Anyone who had their name down for the original race at BUMPS on the 22nd has now also had their name put down for this race...if you would like to go to this race or would not like to then I DEFINITELY need to hear from the following people:

William Russell
Daniel Steele
Kat Christou
Adele Butterfield
Rhett Lezama
Colin Smith-Bowen
Nick Shergill
Ata Jaffer
Richard Porter
Poya Shohani
Kelly Breakwell
Charlotte Bailey
Josh Overhill
Tom Race
Amy Charles
Will Smith
Jack Andrew
Nathan O'Brien
Adam Hibberd
Sam Jackson
Wolfgang Ott
Phil Skop
Andy Fitton
Leon Frank
Robert Holloway
Oscar Yapp

(As usual, any non-members must pay £2.50 to cover insurance purposes)

4 - GRIMSBY! Is still definitely on, you'll be please to hear! On 29th October we shall be heading to the scene of the titanic Hull v York University clash this year to get everyone accustomed to the track with a 2 hour team Enduro...however, because we have had to up the price on Pontefract/BUMPS we can lower the price on Grimsby (Hurrah!)...so it has now gone from £30 per person to a mere £27. You can all thank me later

5 - If you are thinking, it's a lot of Karting, and I want to do it, but it seems quite pricey...well we have an offer for you. Rather than paying a total of £47 to go to both events separately, you can pay £42 for both, a saving of £5, which is £5 you can use for a few drinks at a later date of course!

6 - Football this Sunday is from 2-4pm at the 3G pitch...we will be signing people up to the League team (which will play on Tuesdays for Half an hour between 12 and 4), which will cost around £12.50 if you want to play on it...but that does give you a full Semester of football in a proper team. Which is well worth it if you ask me.

7 - A lot of you have been asking about the next social...well, after the Pontefract race we shall be meeting in Gardeners for drinks/food at around 7 (it will be packed but meh) and then going on to Asylum, please feel free to come along even if you didn't attend the race. We'll have a good laugh and represent the society, with the medals we won around our necks of course!

8 - T-Shirts!!! If anyone wants a Go-Karting t-shirt then we need to know what Number you want (Cannot be 1, 2, 4, 5.9, 6, 9, 14, 27, 71 as these are all retired Exec numbers), what nickname you want on the back (we can help you come up with one if you can't think of one!) and what size you are (S, M, L, XL I believe are the choices). Paul Hutton (social sec) will be dealing with the order and he has said that he reckons the price will be less than 15 pounds per t-shirt...how much less depends on how many we order! So the more people wanting them the better.

9 - Thank you for indulging me in this rather long e-mail and I hope you will all continue supporting HUGS by coming to as many events as possible in the future.

Your President
Jon Beagles
